The Gender Inclusive Housing Experience
Starting in fall of 2015, UNF has maintained both upper–class and first year communities to support all students wishing to reside on campus. The community supports students who identify as transgender or gender non–conforming in choosing (or being placed with) a roommate of any gender. Students were accepted into the living community through an application process. The application is made up of a series of questions which gauge a student’s interest in promoting a safe, inclusive, comfortable, and supportive community for people of all gender identities and expressions.
The LGBT Center has partnered with HRE to make GIHE possible, and continues to be a tremendous support for the community. They offer education, outreach, advocacy, and support to all UNF students, and can answer questions specific to the experience of being a resident in a community that supports all gender identities and expressions.
