Loyola University New Orleans Department of Residential Life is a featured program.
The Department of Residential Life at Loyola University New Orleans serves just over 1300 resident students in four residential facilities for a population of 4500 total enrolled (including grad, law and continuing ed) with 2850 undergrads. As a Catholic, Jesuit, private, Liberal Arts University, our mission is to educate the whole person and to prepare them for life after Loyola. Our values are rooted in Ignatian (St. Ignatius) spirituality including Compassion, Excellence, Dignity, Wholeness, and Inclusiveness.
Facilities include traditional community style living, traditional suite style with shared bathroom and/or common space, and apartments. Loyola requires first-year and sophomore students to live on campus as an integral piece of their college transition. Housing exemptions are granted to applicants who commute from the permanent residence of a parent/legal guardian. Students classified as Junior status, over the age of 21, legally married, or classified as an honorably discharged veteran are also exempt from living on campus. All four residence halls are staffed by front desk operations 24 hours daily, with the exception of some holiday breaks where our hours are abbreviated due to low traffic. During winter break through the New Year, all university operations, including residential facilities, are closed.
Programmatically, the office follows a Community Development Model (CDM) as guide for both Resident Assistant programming and also larger departmental initiatives. Based on three goals (Community Responsibility, Understanding of Self, and Life Skills Development), the CDM provides program themes and recommended student staff contributions which can be tailored by the building Community Director as needed.
The department is staffed by a Director, Associate Director of Operations, Office Manager, three full time Community Directors, and one graduate level Community Director. The student staff at Loyola consists of:

Desk Assistants (work study and regular hourly)
