The goal of this program is to educate residents on the processes involved in living on or off campus.
Here is a brief description:
As RA’s, our desire to keep our residents informed does not end if they decide to move off campus. For many residents, the decision to move off campus and the subsequent hunt for accommodations is something they do on their own, but we as RA’s can assist in this process!
For this program I brought in a representative from the housing & residence life department at my University as well as an outside realtor to discuss the pros and cons of living on or off campus. Since both speakers benefit from the students’ decision, they were extremely willing to participate. Students actively engage in the discussion because the information is so pertinent to them. Add free food to this great educational atmosphere and you’ll have a wildly successful program!
At my University, residents are required to live on campus for two years and other colleges/universities may have similar rules. This makes this program extremely popular if facilitated the semester before residents are allowed to move off campus.
