For my door name tags this year, I mimicked the “platinum album” plaques that the music industry uses.
I used black construction paper as the background. I found silver Sharpie markers at the campus bookstore and used them to draw the borders on the background and on the name card. I wanted to save some money on the CD part so I got used CD’s from a video store. The store clerk gave me 100 of them!
The name card has the resident’s name and their hometown. The smaller card has a space for each resident to right down the name of his or her favorite song and artist.
I wanted to do something music/song related but was afraid that music notes and such would exclude people who didn’t have much of a technical background in music. I came up with this idea because I knew that regardless of peoples’ backgrounds, everyone has a favorite song. It was neat because it gave people something to talk about when they met new people!
