Last spring I had a mostly freshman floor, that was discouraged about their first semester grades. I noticed (whilst eating a box of NERDS candy) that there are these little squishy blob characters on the box–the characters are NERDS animated. So I drew out a few different ones, traced them onto fluorescent paper, cut them out, and glued on eyes from the craft store that move if you shake them. I made enough to have them all over the walls too and used the scraps of fluorescent paper to make dashed lines on the walls in between the NERDS to make it look like they were running around and having a good time. The theme was called, “Be a NERD this semester!” My residents loved them – took a lot of them home at the end of the semester. We also had NERDS candy at our first floor meeting of the spring semester to keep the theme going.
