To Return or Not to Return…Advice for Returning Staff Members

May 19, 2014 by reslife

So…what should you consider when you are deciding whether to return to the RA position or not?

Start by thinking about the overall experience you have had this past year as a Resident Assistant.

Start by thinking about the significant situations that you have encountered during the course of being an RA this year. Has the ‘good‘ been great and the ‘bad’ just okay, or has the ‘good’ been decent and the ‘bad’ just awful? Your overall impressions and answer to this question should really provide you with great insight about the decision to return or not.

Second, think of your life and what you have gotten out of the job. This could mean that you are full of positive things and can’t wait for more, or perhaps you’ve gotten all you can out of the position at this time.

Third, where do you see yourself next year? Is this the place for you or do you need to find something different? Are you a good fit with the people around you?

Hopefully reflecting on these questions will guide you to the decision that is best for you.
