University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Department of Residence Life is a featured program.
The primary purpose of United Students in Residence Hall, USRH, the governing body representing all the halls, is to advocate on behalf of residence hall students. In the past they have addressed topics such as residence hall parking, guest policy, construction/renovation, and housing appeal requests. They sponsor After Dark, a late night programming initiative in our union prior to finals week. They also coordinate loft sales, as well as welcoming and finals care package sales.
At The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh hall leaders are elected prior to the school year so they participate in a day or so of training before the halls open. We also have some hall leader training and retreat in the early fall, once all halls have had all their leaders elected. Hall leader resources and training materials are provided on D2L for advisors to utilize in the training and development of their hall leaders.
Advisors are required to facilitate team development and on-going training throughout the semester. The United Students in Residence Hall organization (USRH) conducts a leadership roundtable for hall leaders mid-semester in both the Fall and Spring semesters. In addition, a Community Development Specialist offer training in February (the format varies by year by needs/wants).
