For great fun in the office, a past staff member at Temple University named Chris Knoth, creatively originated the soup can award. Made from plastic super action figures and other items glued on the top of a soup can, the awards are spray painted gold or bronze. The creative label that is glued to the can outlines the award.
While at Temple University I was involved quite heavily in reducing our pest problem on campus via proactive extermination and tracking efforts. After writing an article for The MACUHO News on this very topic, I received the Warrior Princess of Pest Control award, which read, “In honor of her leading the war on pests in university residence halls and journalistic contributions to the study of pest management.” The award, which I have kept to this day, features a female action figure holding her fist gallantly over the body of a mouse.
Soup can awards are a fun way to recognize staff efforts, and can also be used to acknowledge individual contributions when staff members leave the department.
If you enjoy a good tag sale…action hero’s are typically available at an excellent price!
