Fun on the Job: Getting to Know Residents on a Personal
Level
By Shenika Price,
Resident Assistant, Georgia Southwestern State University
As any Resident
Assistant can testify, being a RA can be quite stressful at times. Between
studying for class, doing programs, and dealing with everyday situations
in a residence hall, it is important for Resident Assistants to find ways
to have fun.
The way
I have fun on my job is to get to know my residents on a personal level.
When I am in my room they are always stop by to share friendly words with
me and make me laugh. Sometimes when they are hanging out in the hallway,
I will stop and chat with them. We always seem to find the best things
to talk about and have the most fun. Being close to my residents makes
most things that I do in the job fun. When they attend my programs we
can all laugh and share things about ourselves. The genuine dedication
that I have to my residents shows in everything that I do and they can
see it.
That means
the world to me and also makes me happy and when I'm happy I'm having
fun!
