About
The Roommate Resource Service
Roommate conflicts are incredibly complicated
to manage, and a stressor for both students and their parents. They
impact all levels of staff from the resident assistant to the chief
housing officer and beyond.
In line with the goals of Reslife.Net,
that involves providing on-line solutions to the problems that housing
administrators face, the development of The Roommate Resource package
responds to the complicated management issues that surround roommate
relationships.
What is The Roommate Resource?
The Roommate Resource provides a combination
of proactive and reactive tools used by RAs and other housing administrators
to help in assessing and managing a roommate conflict. The service consists
of 3 separate products, described as follows:
The Assessment Survey:
This product provides RAs and housing administrators with a tool that
assesses the issues impacting a roommate relationship, specifically
analyzing the differences between an individual’s “real”
verses their “ideal” roommate. Purchasing institutions use
this tool in either a proactive or reactive fashion.
The product operates as follows:
The Student Education Module:
This product is a high-end video/flash technology presentation that
educates students on how to live successfully with a roommate.
Universities who purchase this product
can use it proactively (having all freshmen complete the tool prior
to move-in) or reactively (to educate students who are currently involved
in a roommate conflict).
The Parent Education Module:
This on-line PowerPoint training module educates parents about the typical
university response to a roommate conflict, and the things that they
can do to assist their student. It can be used proactively by having
parents view the module over the summer or at the start of the year,
or reactively if a conflict has occurred. As is the case with all of
Reslife.Net’s services, the module is generic enough to meet the
needs of all institutions, but specific enough to provide quality educational
materials to parents.
