Bridgewater State University Office of Residence Life and Housing is a featured program.
The Office of Residence Life and Housing at Bridgewater State University does most of their work through committees. The office has 12 defined committees that are chaired or co-chaired by Resident Directors and/or one of the Assistant/Associate Directors. RAs are encouraged and invited to be members of each of the committees and have a say in decisions being made. This model provides all levels of staff with an opportunity to lead a committee. The names and descriptions of the 12 committees are listed below.
Assessment Committee
The Residence Life & Housing Assessment Committee aims to build the department’s capacity for assessing student learning and program evaluation. The RLH Assessment Committee assists RLH staff with staying current on assessment best practices and trends. The committee also serves as an assessment resource for any RLH committee, staff member or initiative.
Damage Billing Appeals Committee
The committee reviews damage appeals submitted by students as well as reviews prices and costs associated with damages in the halls.
Departmental Events Committee
This committee plans social events for the RLH staff throughout the year including the RA Training Banquet, RA End of the Year Banquet, Fall Social, Winter Social, and Spring Social.
FYRE Committee
The First Year Residential Experience program promotes student learning and assists first year resident students with their transition from high school to college. Students that attend FYRE programs will be connected to beneficial campus resources and be given the tools to successfully meet their goals at Bridgewater State University.
Media Committee
The media committee is responsible for documenting departmental events and programs via video and photos. Additionally, the media committee posts about departmental events and programs on established social media accounts.
Professional Staff Search Committee
The professional staff search committee oversees all departmental staff searches. Professional Development Committee The professional development committee is responsible for providing continued professional development to all levels of full-time staff in Residence Life and Housing which includes resident directors, clerical staff, maintainers, management team and institutional security officers.
Recognition and Motivation Squad
The mission of the RLH Recognition and Motivation Squad (RAMS) is to promote the recognition and appreciation of RLH staff members and collaborators.
Standard Operating Procedures Committee
The SOP committee is responsible for reviewing all departmental SOPs, updating as necessary, writing new SOPs and reviewing SOPs at staff meetings as needed.
Student Staff Recruitment and Selection Committee
The student staff recruitment and selection committee is responsible for coordinating all efforts to fill RLH’s student employee positions. These positions include senior/resident assistant, office assistant, program assistant and student security officer. This committee is also responsible for all summer student employee positions including summer RA, conference assistants and office assistants.
Student Staff Training & In-service Committee
The student staff training and in-service committee is charged with coordinating training for all departmental student staff members which include senior/resident assistants (S/RA), office assistants (OA) and student security officers (SSO). Training will be done at the beginning of the fall and spring semester as well as on-going in-service trainings.
Sustainability
The mission of the RLH Sustainability Committee is to increase awareness of sustainability and to promote the broad use of effective sustainable practices among professional staff and resident students inside and outside of the residence halls.
